Warner Bros reveal first in film look at Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage

Shao Kahn and Kitana were also revealed for the first time

Warner Bros gave us an exclusive first look at new and returning characters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 last night.

The pictures were revealed exclusively in Entertainment weekly with the line up led by Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph’s Kitana, Shao Kahn with Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Scorpion.

A number of other previously “killed off” characters will be making their return including fan favourites: Josh Lawson’s Kano and Max Huang’s Kung Lao. This could hint at Shang Tsung resurrecting them as revenants, as he does in the games later in the franchise, being a huge part of the plot in the sequel.

Ed Boone, the creator of the game franchise, also revealed that Johnny, Kitana, Scorpion and Shao Kahn "movie skins" will me coming to MK1 "later this year", likely in or around the movie's release date.

The film is slated for an October 25th release date and will hope to recapture some of the success of its predecessor. While the title had a modest 55% rating on rotten tomatoes, it exceeded all expectations in the box office, making near $100million on a $50million budget, in the midst of Covid 19 shutdowns.
