Square Enix promise "various projects" to celebrate the 30th anniversary of legendary RPG: Chrono Trigger

Details on any of the upcoming projects are yet to be revealed

Square Enix took to X to reveal that they will be "launching various projects over the next year" to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the legendary Chrono Trigger.

Today marks 30 years since the original title released on the Snes, followed by the sequel Chrono Cross in 1999 which was later remade for modern platforms and entitled the "Radical Dreamers" edition. While always being a fan favourite RPG, helmed by some of the greats of the genre such as: Final Fantasy creator Hirinobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horri with artwork by the late great Dragonball creator Akira Toriyama, the title has remained on the shelf since 2022.

However, this tweet seems to confirm the franchise will get more attention than it has had in decades to commemorate its anniversary. While nothing was revealed on what these "projects" could be, Square have seen success in the ground up remake space with Final Fantasy 7, so fans have speculated that a ground up remake could be on the cards. What else will be released remains to be seen and could be anything from ports of the original to next gen consoles, merchandise or whole new games set in the Chrono Trigger world. Whatever the case may be, 2025 looks to be a big year for Chrono fans.
