PlayStation released a statement this week with the news while offering any players who bought the title a full refund
PlayStation announced this week that, after just 2 weeks, Concord will be shut down and its servers will be taken offline on September 6th. The game, created by PlayStation studios' Firewalk studios, received mix reviews upon release with the game peaking at a mere 697 players on steam.
While these numbers don't reflect the total player base, as it was of course released on PlayStation as well, the lacklustre numbers seem to have been enough for Sony to take action. The statement said "while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and out initial launch didn't land the way we intended. Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6th, 2024, and explore other options, including those that better reach our players."
What these "other options" include remains to be seen, but given a full refund is being offered to players, it is possible the game could be made free to play like other successful games as a service over the years like EA's Apex Legends and Ubisoft's X-Defiant. A sad day for the development team who worked hard on the title for over eight years before its release.
