This comes on the back of releasing 1900 employees back in January, bringing the total to 2550 since their $69billion acquisition of Activision/Blizzard.
Game File initially reported the cuts on Thursday, stating that Phil Spencer informed the teams effected via email that morning. In the note to teams, Spencer said: "As part of our post-acquisition team structure and managing our business, we have made the decision to eliminate approximately 650 roles across Microsoft Gaming - mostly corporate and supporting functions - to organize our business for long term success".
Spencer did add that, unlike the first round of layoffs in January, that "no games, devices or experiences will be cut" in his email to staff. This latest round of cuts bring the total number of loses in the industry to a staggering 12,700 this calendar year so far.
