Game Informer’s official twitter account today announced that this month would be the publications final issue after 33 years of service as the United States’ biggest gaming magazine.
The outlet’s owner, Gamespot, announced the closure much to the surprise of its employees with at least 13 permanent members of staff facing redundancy. The closure was announced via a two paragraph tweet entitled “The Final Level” which is now the only thing shown on the Game Informer website, meaning dozens of staff and freelance contributors appear to be unable to access their previous work. A number of employees, including Video Lead Alex Van Aken have taken to Twitter to announce how abrupt the news was, with many people at the publication yet to be informed of the closure.
A staple in the Industry from 1991 until today, Game Informer and its contributions will be a huge loss to the industry.
